Club Night 2 saw us gather at Honbu Dojo with members from 4 of our associated clubs. During the session we had a taste of some of the techniques taught by Manjit Dhiwsa Sensei which everyone agreed were very effective.
During Club Night 2 we also carried out some of our gradings and given the warmth of the room this was no easy task. Under the careful instruction of Mark Burch 5th Dan and watchful eye of Lawrence McGrandles Sempai and Gunes Sengunes Sempai we saw Jonah Llewellyn (of Suki Ryu under Mark Burch 5th Dan Sensei) earn his Red belt marking the first step on his Jujitsu journey. Shan Malik (of Sejin Shiki under Roger Khan 7th Dan Shihan) earned his Yellow belt. Daniel McGrandles (of Honbu under George Scarrott 10th Dan Soke) earned his Purple belt and Jamie Bell (of Suki Ryu under Mark Burch 5th Dan Sensei) also earned his Purple belt.
Due to a breakdown in communication Jonah Llewelyn missed the beginning of the allotted grading time so it was agreed that he could carry over to the following Monday the remainder of his grading. This was done with a slightly smaller class which meant Jonah was "fortunate" enough to enjoy some very good one to one time with Mark Burch 5th Dan Sensei,Robert Barrett 1st Dan Sensei and Lawrence McGrandles Sempai. The end of the session consisted of sparring in gloves with the 3 seniors in 6 minute "rounds" each senior rotating out after 2 minutes giving Jonah a fresh opponent. It would be fair to say that after his reduced time at the Club Night grading he most definitely earned his Red belt with the remainder of his grading on the Monday.
